Whither Workforce Analytics?

We are in Year Five and counting since the chattering classes in HR (analysts, consultants, columnists, vendor marketing executives) declared workforce analytics to be the next big thing. Make that 23 years, if you start with the pioneering work by Jac Fitz-enz. But corporate successes have been rare, even with widely different technology approaches to choose from. When it was independent, PeopleSoft developed a powerful but unstructured Workforce Analytics package, sold about 200 but saw only about five ever used. For four years, Oracle has been developing and promoting Daily Business Intelligence, a dashboard of completely structured pre-written analytic charts, with little more success. Now, two vendors -- one fairly old and one pretty new -- are offering different paths down the same road. The older vendor is HumanConcepts…

Search SAP : OrgPlus 6

When executives at Sears, Roebuck and Co. wanted a better handle on company spending, they first looked at gaining control over the silos of employee data located in multiple systems. Growth and changes had contributed to making the company hierarchy difficult to manage over the years. Some executives saw the reporting relationship between employees as a better way to get a handle on the bottom line.

OrgPlus Shows the Pecking Order

HumanConcepts' OrgPlus 5 lets companies illustrate chains of command that are too complicated for apps such as Microsoft Office or Visio. OrgPlus, which shipped in July, is available in a $495 Professional version, which integrates with enterprise databases, and a $189 Standard version.

Chart Your Organization. Create org charts and publish them to the Internet

HumanConcepts' market-leading OrgPlus has long been one of the most intuitive and powerful tools for producing organizational charts. And the newest version, OrgPlus 4 Professional, is more Web-friendly than ever: Not only can you easily publish a chart to the Internet or a corporate intranet, but your colleagues can manipulate it. Using a Web browser (Netscape 4 or IE 4 or later), they can zoom in and out, print selected branches, or even export the chart back to an OrgPlus file.

Publish Organizational Charts

Organizational charts are not just for seeing who's above and below you in your company. They are essential for effective communication and indispensable in times of reorganization. OrgPlus 4.0 Professional, from HumanConcepts, is designed for companies with 50 or more employees. This robust tool imports data from a generous number of formats, creates multi-level organizational charts, and lets you publish them to intranets, the Web, PowerPoint presentations, and Microsoft Word.

Company, Know Thyself

Knowledge is power. Sure, it's a cliche. But it's a cliche that rings true. After all, having a clear picture of a company's corporate structure might help HR root out redundancies within the organization. The ability to swiftly and accurately catalog employee skills might reveal that tasks which are usually outsourced could better be handled in-house. An up-to-the minute snapshot of departmental profiles and budgets might help HR ensure that resources and personnel are being dedicated in accordance with the company's strategic goals.
